#156 When Witches Go Riding
When Witches Go Riding
The theme for this grungy book is an old vintage halloween postcard and poem. I have also added a bookmark which matches the postcard image. The center of the book is tied off with festive orange raffia that is holding the witches broom. The little handmade broom is made from grapevine twigs, broom, and wrapped with rusty trimmings with stars and a moon. The poem reads: When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, tis' near halloween.

#155 The Trial of Bridget Bishop
Bridget's Trial
This book was created with professional materials, quality scrapbook papers on a real book. Scrapbooking materials and papers are all acid and linogen free and should last for years if properly cared for. These books are created to remain open. All of my books are coated with my super grungy mixture for a very old time aged style looks like it was just dug from the ground. The pages have all been antiqued to look very old. Nice for display year round on a shelf or book stand.
Sealed with a protective finish Signed and dated by the artist. This is an original one of a kind creation.
The theme for this grungy book is Bridget's trial. Bridget Bishop is one of many of the most fascinating women who were persecuted during the Witchcraft hysteria that occurred in Massachusetts in the town of Salem Village. The words on the pages done in a fancy script are a replica of the actual transcripts in the courtroom during the trial of Bridget Bishop. It starts out: "The trial of Bridget Bishop Salem Village 1692, by Jonathon Hawthorne and Jonnath Corwin." and goes on to describe some of the crimes of which she was said to have committed. I have also added a old antique looking photo of a depiction of the trials at the time. It is printed on high quality HP photo paper and is 4x6 in size. I have also tied the center of the book with coffee stained cheesecloth and tucked in some coriander and statice flowers. The flowers can be removed should you ever want to change them. I am pleased with how this creation turned out, I have been doing grungy books since 1998 and they take me about two weeks to complete once started. This is my first in a series of Salem Witch themed books I will doing this year.

#120 Witch's Grungy Halloween Book
This book was created with professional materials on an actual book. The book has been created to remain open, it does not close and the only pages that open are the ones you see in the photo that the altered art is created on. I use only high quality materials for antiquing, staining and dying. Sealed with a protective finish. Signed by the artist and dated.
These books look great propped up on a shelf, dresser or on a book stand and make an interesting conversation piece as well as a keepsake.
The back of the book is coated with my extreme grungy mixture, to give that just dug from the ground look, so it has a nice aged appearance of an primitive album that has been around for all eternity. The pages I have given my antiquing techniques to make them look old and worn and distressed. The book is tied down the center with a piece of coffee stained cheesecloth, and smells yummy! I have tucked into the bookmark some drieds, sweet annie and coriander flowers. One the right side is an old vintage image of a little witch in her Halloween garb.
The poem reads:
Tonight is the night
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
Across the sky,
When elf and sprite
Flit through the night
On a moony sheen.
Tonight is the night
When leaves make a sound
Like a gnome in his home
Under the ground,
When spooks and trolls
Creep out of holes
Mossy and green.
Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves
Everywhere,
When ghouls and ghost
And goblin host
Dance round their queen.
It's Halloween.

Halloween Candle holder Assemblage

#105 Halloween Grungy Bottle Assemblage
A trio of Primitive Grubby Halloween bottles have been assembled in this set.
I have recycled a great collection of old glass bottles, made them super grungy, and added some cute Halloween accents to them to create a one of kind set of Halloween candle holders.
The large bottle in the middle has been super grungied with my mix of spices, I have added a vintage halloween postcard image to the front. There is also a label on the neck that reads: 1858. The image is of the Halloween nightmare.
There are also two other smaller bottles both with vintage looking halloween labels, one is trick or treats ornament company. The other is Silhouette Costume company and has a little image of dark witch flying over.
Each has a very unique coating that makes them look extra grubby and smell yummy.
I have tied on some coffee stained cheesecloth to each of the bottles, added a rusty safety pin & rusty bell for that old time look.
One of the bottles has a little sweet annie tucked in the cheesecloth, I also added a little coffee stained homespun in natural colors and stuffed the bottle neck with some grubby, nubby tapers which also smell like Halloween candy corn & pumpkin bread.
With the candles inserted the large bottle measures just over 15", the smaller ones just over 12".
